- Details of Event
- Deceased was cleaning up a level in the Ten Feet at the deep side of a rib next the gob preparatory to bringing the rib back. He was setting a long post in a part of the level where the tops (5 feet thick) had fallen. Finding a lid necessary he left his holer holding the post in position, and started along the level to fetch a lid. When he had reached a point about 3 yards away, where the tops were up supported on bars with a leg at each end and a middle set a heavy goth occurred followed immediately by a fall of top coal over an area of 7 feet 6 inches by 10 feet (the width of the level) which reeled two of the bars and completely buried deceased. The coal fell from between two parallel breaks running along either side of the level.
