Deceased was enlarging a roadway driven in the top portion of the Thick Coal. Having removed thickness of 2.5 feet of ground above an old setting of timber he was in the act of knocking it out with a hammer when the side suddenly gave way and was immediately followed by a heavy fall of roof which reeled out two settings and buried him. When released he was found to be dead.
