- Details of Event
- Deceased was loading a tub at the face of a wide road in the New Mine coal, having old gob in front, except at the right side where there was a small nob of coal which the stallman was working out. Suddenly a large piece of rock, 12ft. lung, fell from between two slips, 4ft. apart at the base and converging together 5ft. up, and buried deceased, who was killed instantly. Four trees were reeled out by the fall. Apparently the working out of the coal at the right side finally unlocked the piece, one side of which was square with the edge of the face. The slips were not seen before the fall.
