When getting coal at the face, hearing a movement of the roof, he stepped back quickly and was caught by the roof falling behind him, and so severely injured that he died next morning. Immediately after this fall the roof fell at the face to a concealed slip. The first fall displaced two props and came away to the edge of a ‘pot-hole,’ which had fallen during the previous shift.
