- Details of Event
- Deceased was holing some overhanging coal 4 feet 10 inches thick, up to which sprags 2 feet 10 inches long wore set. Some danger appears to have been noticed, for he got up and examined the roof and coal. He was preparing to restart holing when the overhanging portion of the seam fell and fractured his skull. The sprag remained standing. He died the next day. The use of cockers or long sprags might have prevented the fall, as the portion that fell was entirely unsupported.
