Deceased with his father was engaged in extracting a pillar of coal in Main Coal seam. The seam is 6.5ft thick the upper part of the seam which overhung consists of 1 foot of coal with 1 foot of sandstone band below. It was supported by a stay which proved to be insufficient as a mass fell over.
