- Roof fall. David Andrew Perry, Stone Worker, met his death in No.3 Pit, Polmaise Colliery, Fallin on Saturday forenoon (17 May 1924) through a large stone, weighing about five tons, coming away from the roof and pinning him to the ground. The stone had to be blasted before Perry could be extricated. Perry, who was 27 years of age, resided in Dowan Place, Cambusbarron and leaves a widow and three of a family. His father resides at 5 Park Lane, Stirling and he was a brother of 'Bob' Perry, who played for King's Park and Bury and of John who played for Emmet and George for Bannockburn. Death, which was practically instantaneous, was due to asphyxia by crushing and a fracture of the spine. The funeral took place on Tuesday to Stirling Cemetery with Military Honours. About 50 members of No 2 Coy., (H) Div.Signals attended under Captain McHutcheon, and the cortege attracted much attention as it passed through the streets of the town. (Stirling Observer).
