A shot hole had been bored 16ins by a machine drill and 18ins by a hand drill and deceased was charging it. He had put 3 pellets of Gelignite and 3 pellets of compressed powder in when an explosion occurred, but how produced no one knows. It was thought however that he was using a steel drill with some force to get the powder to pass a bend in the hole. The charge did not damage the hole, and its crooked condition could be traced after removing some of the stone it was intended to blow up.
