- He was standing on a wide ledge, 25 to 50 feet above the bottom of the quarry, working stone from the foot of a bed which was inclined at an angle of 40 to 50 degrees from the horizontal. The bed of stone was 12 feet long by 10 feet wide by 1 feet 6 inches thick at the foot, increasing to 4 feet thick at the higher end. Suddenly it slipped from its bed said knocked him over the side of the quarry. Some of the broken stone fell on and killed him. The bed of stone could have boon easily and safely dislodged by blasting it from the higher side.
