He had drilled a hole 19 inches deep in the clay below the ganister and charged it with about 10ozs of dynamite and was in the act of ramming it with a wooden and copper ended stemmer when the charge exploded. The stemmer was blown to pieces and the man was so badly injured that he died on arriving at the infirmary.
