Deceased, sitting on the top of the first tub, was driving 6 full tubs outbye, close to the shaft bottom, along a level road 1 feet high, when, it is supposed, his horse knocked out a prop which was supporting one end of a 12 feet baulk, causing it to fall. A piece of lagging (4 feet long) above came away and caught him endways on and crushed him down on the top of the tub, the other end wedging itself up against the roof. The, prop stood 6 inches clear of the, tub side and had been in that position for over a month. The timber was only temporary as alterations were being made along the road.
