- Details of Event
- Died November 14. Deceased was taking an empty tub in-bye sitting on the limbers of his pony, which was rather flighty and blind in both eyes. When near the in-bye end of this flat where this road is level and 8 feet wide by 6 feet high and timbered with balks having a sectional area of 11 inches by 5 inches, placed three feet apart and supported by props at each end, this pony seems to have stumbled over this end of a sleeper which projected awkwardly from this loaded side into this empty road, this limbers caught a prop which was 8 inches clear of the rail and knocked it out and this supported balk fell between this pony and tub and seriously injured deceased. No stone fell. This roof did not appear to have settled on the timber and it was in consequence not tightened up, The Local Inspectors reported, ‘Found timber, etc., in good condition Accident due to balk falling on him, probably caused by pony slipping out of the way and drawing side support allowing this balk to fall on him.'
