- Details of Event
- Died August 6th. Deceased told his son and another hewer that while filling his tub he had slipped and wrenched his back but when the deputy visited him in his working place after he became ill he said nothing about it to him. Deceased had to be assisted home and never worked again, and was paid compensation up to his death. Before May 21 he had been under medical treatment, and after that date the doctor suspected some internal disease. An inquest was held after a post-mortem examination which revealed cancer of the liver. According to medical evidence the accident might have accelerated death and the jury found that death was due to cancer of the liver accelerated by a strain received while following his employment as a hewer.
