21 March 1937: William Boland (56), 25 Springhill Buildings, Stane, Shotts, was accidentally killed while at work on Sunday night in Southfield Colliery, Shotts, belonging to the Shotts Iron Company. Boland, who was employed as a shotfirer was working alone at the time of the accident and was killed instantly. It has not yet been ascertained how the accident occurred. [Scotsman 23 March 1937]
