A place was to be turned away out ofa landing on an angine plane in the Main Coal seam and deosased and another shifter who was injured were engaged placing a running balk under the ends of four balks extending across the road and supporting the roof so that the roof under these balks could be remosed to get access to the side. The four baulks had been middle propped and the running balk put under their ends in a temporary manner and they were preparing to put in a permanent prop at one end of it when the roof collapsed. The stone is short blue metal. The Local Inspector reported that deceased 'was accidentaly killed by a fall of stone which was a pure accident'.
