- Details of Event
- He was riding on the front of the first of two full trams of ore, each loaded 6 inches above the top, and drawn by a pony. As he proceeded outbye along the level, his acetylene light went out, said by himself to have been due to concussion caused by blasting, and instead of stopping to re-light his lamp he continued his journey in the dark. While sitting upright his head came in contact with a piece of low roof, the position of which he had misjudged, and he was knocked backwards on the top of the ore, a piece of which penetrated his spine. He died two days later.
