- Details of Event
- The endless rope was being lengthened, and he was in charge of the operations. He was assisting to remove some 8-feet planks from the wheel hole, when he slipped and fell, and complained of having injured himself internally. He was removed at once to the hospital. Threes days afterwards he was operated upon, but he died on the 22nd May. A post-mortem revealed a malformation of the small intestine, which had apparently existed from birth, and which had caused obstruction. The medical evidence was that death was due to peritonitis and heart failure that it might have happened at any moment, but might have been accelerated by a fall or strain.
