- Having undercut the overburden which was about 10 to 12 feet high, he and his comrade tried to throw it with bars overnight but failed Next morning they tried to further undercut it and while doing so it fell resulting in Parnell’s death, and injury to his comrade. This undercutting is a most improper and dangerous method of working unless shored up, and is the source of numerous accidents.
