- Details of Event
- The deceased and a youth were repairing and enlarging the main return on the north side of the Haigh Moor Seam, and at the part to which they had got there was a piece of overhanging side stone supported by a vertical and also a sprag prop At the back of the stone there was a breaker which was clearly defined. Several attempts had been made to get the stone down by wedging and also with a bar, but without success. At the commencement of the shift the deputy went in with them and told them they were to fill the stone from the opposite side of the road and that none was to he removed from the side on which the stone was on account of the danger of displacing the props under it in so doing. The bottom of the props was, however, under-mined and it fell out and when Parkinson was setting another the stone fell upon and killed him.
