- Details of Event
- The accident happened at the coal face. The roof was supported by bars, set about four feet, apart, one end of the bar being fixed in the coal, and the other end resting on props. Deceased was engaged in removing a narrow strip of coal from the face, to enable the coal-cutting machine to pass the posts, when the coal fell suddenly from an unseen break, thus liberating a bar and props, and the roof 4 feet by 3 feet by 1 foot 4 inches thick followed immediately and buried him. He sustained a fracture of the spine and died on 12th October.
