Whilst assisting to carry an iron sheet across the colliery sidings in the dark, he was knocked down by a locomotive and two full wagons. The engine driver and his shunter both said that the whistle was sounded, but deceased and his foreman stated, at the time, they did not hear it. A very strong gale was blowing.
