He was waiting for the putter to bring him a full tub, and when the putter approached went forward to meet him at a point where the road dipped outbye at the rate of about 1 in. per yard. As the putter could not hold the full tub back without using dregs or without assistance, the driver put his back against the front of the tub while the putter held on behind. The tub had to pass under a top coal canch with only 2.5 inches clearance, and the driver failed to lower his head, and his skull was crushed This accident should not have occurred.
