He was engaged in tramming stuff on the 170-fathom level, the cross bearers and runners forming the tramway gave way and deceased, with his tram, fell about 9 fathoms causing his death. It was thought that a heavy stone from above the 262 level fell upon this runner the night before and damaged it.
