- Details of Event
- Deceased and another man were filling coal in a seam worked bord and wall. Four shots had been fired by the shot firer, and they were filling the coal thus blown down, while the remainder of the shot-holes were drilled, when a large stone, half of a very large "chauldron pot," 14 feet long, 7 feet 6 inches wide, and 19 inches thick-fell on to deceased and killed him instantly. It was thought that the noise of the hammer-drill had prevented deceased from hearing any movement there might have been. In future no coal will be filled until all the shot-holes have been drilled.
