- Details of Event
- Deceased and another man were hewing in a bord 5.5 yards wide. The coal is 2 feet 2 inches thick with a top canch of 1 foot 6 inches taken near the middle of the place. The face of the canch was within 2 feet 6 inches of the coal face. As deceased was scalloping the coal off, a stone 3 feet square and 10 inches thick came away from the front of the canch at two well marked slips and a feathery edge, he having just uncovered one slip parallel with the face. The slips would not he apparent before the stone fell. It is stated that one prop was canted out by the stone.
