He was getting coal at the face when some roof coal fell as the result of a weight bump and he was fatally injured. A pillar of coal was being posted out and deceased was working on a "bord" lift. A chock was knocked out by the fall. The specified distance for setting supports was not exceeded and the place had been visited by a deputy 1.5 hours before and reported safe. The roof coal at this point was lower owing to a small fault and might, with advantage, have been taken down.
