He was coming out along a level with his horse and three full tubs when a large body of roof fell and killed both driver and horse. In the ordinary course of inspection the level was examined by Manager and Under-manager on the previous day, and by the fireman twice on the morning of the accident, and no uneasiness was felt as to the security of the roof. The roof when the fall occurred was not supported by timber owing to its hard nature. Imperceptible movement of the strata was evidently responsible for the weakening of the roof.
