- Details of Event
- Deceased was assisting to replace a broken bearer in the sump hole. The new bearer was in its place, and deceased was sitting upon another when he suddenly fell back over into the sump. He fell a distance of 7 feet into 3.5 feet of water, but was quickly got out and brought round. Refusing to go to hospital, he was sent home in a cal. He became seriously ill, and although attended by a doctor died within two hours of the accident. A post-mortem examination showed the lungs were deeply congested. His death was due to shock from immersion, and his lungs being almost solid owing to the black fluid he had taken in, suffocation gradually ensued.
