Inspection made and inquest attended. Deceased had been a hooker-on at the shaft for twenty-four years. He apparently stepped on to the scaffold of the shaft when the cages were running and something (a piece of coal probably) fell and struck him on the head fatally injuring him. He ought to have signalled for the cages to stand whilst he was at the shaft bottom.
