- Details of Event
- Died 18th May, 1905. Deceased may have strained himself in lifting a tub on 3rd May, 1904, but he made no complaint or report at the time to anyone. He was idle on 4th May, worked on 5th May, and then worked no more. He was attended by a doctor and found to be suffering from complete obstruction of the bowel from a tumour of some months’ growth. An operation was performed. A claim for compensation was made during deceased’s lifetime in the County Court but was not successful. After his death a post-mortem examination, at which four medical men were present, revealed a tumour 2 inches diameter in the upper part of rectum. Two doctors who bad been at the post-mortem gave evidence at the inquest and although one of them thought that death bad been accelerated by the accident, the Jury found that death was due to natural causes.
