17 May 1938: Shotts Colliery Fatality - William Blackley (60), a haulageman, residing at 11 Clyde Drive, Shotts, was fatally injured yesterday morning while commencing his work in Northfield Colliery, Shotts, belonging to the Shotts Iron Company. It is thought that Blackley was in the act of oiling his haulage engine, and must have slipped against the machinery. He sustained severe wounds to the abdomen and chest.
