2 September 1928: Mining Fatality at West Calder - A young man named John Murphy, who resided at The Cottage, Woodmuir, West Calder, was seriously injured in Woodmuir Colliery by a fall from the roof. It took several of the workmen to remove the large stone which fell upon him. After receiving medical attention, he was conveyed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, but he succumbed to his injuries.
