- Deceased and another hewer were turning away lifts opposite to each other in the Five Quarter seam which here is separated from the Stone Coal seam by only 18 inches of stone of a short nature and at the particular place the Stone Coal seam had been worked in olden times and the old place had been stowed with rubbish. The place was well timbered with two running balks and planks across hut a fall took place which knocked one of the props out below one of the running balks and the whole roof then collapsed swinging a quantity of timber. The Local Inspectors reported: 'We consider it a pure accident'.
