Deceased was pulling coal off the solid face with an iron bar, when a piece weighing 30 cwts fell and knocked out the face prop of a bank bar. He was struck violently in the stomach by the prop, and, although able to walk to the shaft unassisted, he succumbed to his injuries on the 13th October. The place had been inspected by a deputy an hour before the accident, and there was no breach of the timbering rules.
