He was in the act of setting a prop, and was driving it up when it bounced back and released a large quantity of stone from the roof. It was afterwards seen that the roof contained a mass of fossils, a most unusual occurrence in this seam. This accident had the effect of reducing the maximum timbering distance in that seam.
