He was leaving the putter's flat with the last set of two full tube for the shift when his skull was fractured by being crushed between the top of the first tub and a balk. At the place where he was caught there was only a clearance of four or five inches between the top of the tub and the underside of the balk, but in the flat he had just left there was considerable height. He had probably been turning round to shout to a putter when the accident occurred.
