20 February 1915: Sudden Death At The Colliery – On Saturday about 1pm, a man named John Black, who was employed at the screening plant of Bowhill Colliery, was suddenly seized with illness and almost immediately expired. Heart failure is stated to have been the cause of death. Deceased, who was 61 years of age, was a widower and resided in lodgings at Eighteenth Street, Bowhill.
