- Details of Event
- This accident occurred on a dip heading which was being cleaned up by deceased and another labourer. The road is quite straight and is of good height and width, but the sides were somewhat full of accumulated rubbish which the two men were filling off. The dip was 3 inches per yard, except in the lower portion where it reduced to about 2 inches per yard. Deceased, having filled a tram, ran it down towards the face with two sprags in the wheels. According to his statement to the fireman, he was following behind the tram when it stopped at the point where the gradient reduced. He first slackened the sprag in the hind wheel and having passed the tram, was slackening the front sprag, when he stumbled and was run over. Two sprags were found in the wheels by the fireman who arrived on the scene soon after the accident.
