- Details of Event
- The locomotives used in conveying the stone in small wagons from the quarries are of small horse power. The gauge is 2 feet 6.5 inches. The deceased was engaged on one of the locomotives to attend to the various points, couple up the wagons to make sets, and was accustomed to ride on the footplate. The locomotive was slowly backing five wagons on to three which were standing. Deceased was waiting to couple them and instead of waiting till the buffers met he attempted to throw the coupling chain on to the draw bar hook and fell forward between the buffers and was fatally crushed. The top of the buffer was 15.5 inches above the rail.
