Deceased and a ripper were taking off some side on the Nine feet level to make room for a haulage rope to work. They had holed under the cliff side, and had bored two shot-holes in it. While the ripper was away looking for the fireman, a piece of cliff, 4 feet by 2.5 feet by 3 feet thick, fell on deceased. No one knew what be was doing at the time, but I concluded that he was holing a little farther under the side.
