Deceased was a stallman working at longwall face in Brooch seam, about 3 feet 4 inches thick. To make height to get the tub along the face line he was taking down some of the roof-stone between two slips when a piece of the roof about 8 feet long 4 feet 9 inches wide, and 2 feet thick fell. He had examined the roof himself before commencing to do this, but no inspection had been made by the fireman since the examination before commencing work about 6.40 am.
