23 November 1943: Pit Fatality. - Thomas Moore (57), underground fireman, was struck by a lump of clay which fell from the roof of the workings in Castlecary fireclay pit and was pinned down to the ground. He succumbed a few hours after being extricated. [Evening Telegraph 24 November 1943]
