When going to borrow a spare lamp he passed underneath a place where a shot was being fired and was caught by the falling roof stone. Another byeworkman had been ordered to guard the approach to the shot but he did not see Moore until the accident had happened. It was said that the man was not at his post when Moore went along the roadway.
