- 15 August 1918: While John Monteith, miner, residing at Craigbank , was in the act of drawing a prop to let down some head coal in Bank No.1 pit, belonging to the New Cumnock Collieries (Ltd.), a fall took place and pinned him to the pavement. When the debris was removed life was found to be extinct. [Scotsman 16 August 1918]
