Whilst deceased was withdrawing hack timber in a waste, the roof weighted suddenly, and in attempting to get clear he stumbled, and his leg was caught by the edge of the fall. He sustained a compound fracture below the knee, and died in the infirmary on the following day. The fall, which came away from slips on three sides, covered an area of about 6 yards by 4 yards, and displaced about 20 props. He was an experienced timber drawer, and was using a suitable appliance at the time. He had set several additional props to safeguard himself during the somewhat dangerous operation.
