The cleek had been standing for a short time and a signal to raise men was given from the bottom. As the cage at the surface was loaded it was necessary in order to comply with the Special Rules that the descending cage should be empty and accordingly deceased after giving a signal to the engineman stepped on to the cage to take off the empty tub when the cage descended and he fell into the shaft. The evidence at the inquiry was very conflicting, but it appeared the engineman was at fault.
