On 9th April the crane left the rails several parts were broken a mechanic had repaired. On turning the crane round the boiler part separated from the rest of the crane fell to the bottom of the quarry, 94 feet, taking with it the engineman. It was clearly proved that the repairs were not complete and the mechanic made a great mistake not satisfying himself as to the condition of certain bolts upon which the security of the crane depended. It was proved that some of these had been almost sheared by the accident on the 9th.
