He was oiling the main rope sheaves at a curve when the tail rope sheaves gave way and the tail rope lashed across towards the inside of the curve and broke his thigh and wrist. He died in hospital on April 15th. There was no apparent reason for the tail rope sheaves giving way the set was being hauled outbye and there should have been little strain on them.
