- Details of Event
- He was walking along a cross-cut from which a bord bank 9 yards wide was being worked, when a piece of roof bind, 7 feet by 5 feet 9 inches by 5.5 inches, weighing about 25 cwt fell upon him and fatally injured him. The roof had been examined about half an hour before and was considered safe. The cause of the fall is not quite clear but was probably due to gas in a thin seam of coal a few feet above, and to a pack being incomplete. No timber was displaced by the fall.
