4 April 1933: Newcraighall Pit Fatality - The death occurred in Edinburgh Royal Infirmary last night, about three hours after his admission, of Colin Methven who was injured in Newcraighall Colliery. Methven was 70 years of age and resided at 17 Niddrie Cottages Portobello, was engaged in the pit when he was knocked down by a passing hutch. [Scotsman 5 April 1933]
